Abstract

ABSTRACT -This work presents a comparative analysis between Sliding Mode Control (SMC) and Proportional–Integral–Derivative (PID) control applied to a DC–DC buck converter for precise output voltage regulation. The comparison emphasizes convergence speed, steady-state performance, and tracking accuracy. The converter system is modeled using ordinary differential equations (ODEs) that describe the dynamics of the inductor current and capacitor voltage. The stability of the proposed sliding surfaces is rigorously established through Lyapunov’s stability theorem, guaranteeing robust closed-loop behavior. The robustness of the SMC is further assessed under step load disturbances and input voltage fluctuations, demonstrating its superior ability to preserve system stability and performance across varying operating conditions. Simulation results obtained in MATLAB/Simulink confirm the theoretical analysis, showing that SMC achieves faster convergence, stronger disturbance rejection, and more accurate voltage regulation compared to the conventional PID controller. These results highlight the effectiveness of SMC as a reliable and high-performance control approach for DC–DC converters in demanding applications.
