The ongoing debate surrounding online (OL) versus face-to-face (F2F) learning underscores the necessity of exploring this issue within the context of higher education in Algeria, particularly to gain a deeper understanding of Algerian university EFL students’ preferences regarding these learning modalities. This study specifically investigated the influence of demographic factors, including gender, age, educational level, and place of residence, on these preferences. Data were collected through an online questionnaire completed by 268 EFL students from various universities across Algeria and analyzed using a quantitative approach. The findings indicate that gender and age significantly influence learning preferences, while educational level demonstrates a weak positive correlation. Notably, place of residence does not appear to have a significant impact, potentially reflecting advancements in Algeria’s digital infrastructure. These results highlight the importance of considering demographic factors when designing inclusive and effective learning environments, offering valuable insights for educational policymakers in Algeria.
