This article examines and analyzes the remarkable efforts of Sheikh Muhammad ibn Abd al-Karim al-Maghili (d. 909 AH/1503 AD) in spreading the Arabic language in the regions of Western Sudan. He was considered one of the most prominent figures in Islamic thought in the Islamic West during the ninth century AH. It highlights the central role played by the city of Touat, located in southern Algeria, as a scholarly and commercial center, in enabling these efforts and expanding their influence. The study highlights that al-Maghili's role was not limited to religious advocacy or political reform, but extended to the linguistic and cultural empowerment of the Arabic language in non-native speaking environments, through various means, including education, writing, and direct guidance to the ruling elite. The article adopts a historical analytical approach to connect the cultural, political, and religious contexts in which al-Maghili operated, with a focus on the importance of Touat as a link between North Africa and Western Sudan. The study concluded that Al-Maghili's project to spread Arabic was part of a comprehensive vision to build an Islamic society unified in language and religion. Its success was linked to several factors, including the centrality of Touat as a scientific and commercial center and his strong network of relationships with sultans and scholars in his areas of influence. The article also recommended expanding research into the Maghrebi-African heritage to gain a deeper understanding of the transmission routes of the Arabic language and Islamic sciences south of the Sahara.:
