Abstract: Environmental crises arising from competition or disputes over the control of natural resources have long been among the main causes of war, both historically and in modern times. Nevertheless, the succession of environmental risks has compelled political leaders to place the need for negotiation at the forefront of their agendas. In this context, the present legal study examines the emergence of a distinct form of negotiation known as environmental diplomacy (First Section). This approach emphasizes political dialogue as a means to prevent conflicts and to establish fair mechanisms for the distribution of resources. Consequently, the environment has evolved into a crucial and indispensable dimension of diplomacy, as well as a central topic of negotiation among states (Second Section).
