الملخص
يأتي الاصطلاح بمعنى التعريف في سياق الترادف، بوصفه لازمة من لوازمه، لذا لا يستقيم هذا دون ذاك، وقد يطلق بمعناه، فيغني لفظ التعريفات عن الاصطلاحات، وإذا كان الأعلام العرب قديما قد احتفوا بالتأليف في هذا الباب، فلأن الحاجة إلى امتلاك مفاتيح الاصطلاح في إدراك العلوم، والمعارف، والفنون قد اقتضت ذلك. ونخص بالحديث الفرقة التي جنحت إلى جمع المصطلحات وبيان مقاصدها؛ وقد كان لها ذلك بالتصنيف في باب القاموس أو المعجم؛ دلالة على أن لفظ المصطلح قد عرفه العرب قديما وأتوا على ذكره في أكثر من موضع من الحديث عن صنعة التأليف المعجمي؛ مع التنويه بلزوم إدراكه ومعرفة مقاصده، وأن الحاجة إليه ضرورة عامة في كل باب من أبواب العلم، ومن هذا المدخل تطرق البلغاء إلى القول في مسائل صنعة الكلام؛ وما يتصل بها من آداب الخطب وغيرها؛ وهو ما فتح باب الاصطلاح لدى صنّاع الكلام وبه ارتفع مقامهم. In classical Arabic texts, the concept of istilāḥ (terminology) appears closely linked to taʿrīf (definition), often serving as a necessary complement or even substitute in certain contexts. The keen interest shown by early Arab scholars in compiling and defining terms was not merely an intellectual exercise but a response to a pressing epistemological need: the necessity of mastering terminological keys to properly access and understand various sciences and disciplines. This concern gave rise to the classification and compilation of lexicons and dictionaries as essential tools for regulating terms and clarifying their intended meanings. The recognition of terminology as a fundamental requirement across all fields of knowledge is evident in its prominent role within the art of rhetoric, where rhetoricians and orators effectively employed it to serve communicative and persuasive purposes. From this perspective, rhetoricians addressed issues of the art of speech, including the etiquette of speech and other related topics. This opened the door to terminology among speech makers, thereby elevating their status.
