Authors : Makhlouf Amro .

Abstract

Abstract This study investigates the factors and effects of low-effort behavior among Master One EFL learners at Medea University, which is usually described by lack of motivation, lack of participation, and poor academic performance. The research aims to determine the prevalence, causes, and effects of this phenomenon while suggesting applicable solutions. There were 80 EFL students and 05 teachers involved in the study. For data gathering, a mixed-methods approach was utilized integrating questionnaires, interviews, and classroom observations. Quantitative data was analyzed by statistical tests (ANOVA, t-tests), while qualitative data were thematically coded and analyzed using NVivo software. The findings indicated that the majority of the participants manifest low participation along with institutional challenges such as overcrowded classes and teacher-centered approaches, psychological barriers that include lack of self-efficacy as well as sociocultural hindrances such as limited exposure to English. Suggested solutions to the problems include usage of interactive methods, constructive feedback, class size reduction and having enhanced provision such as language labs and digital tools.
