University 4.0 And Language Teaching In Algeria: Gaps, Progress, And Recommendations

Authors : Aboura Bouchra . Soltani Souhila .

Abstract

This article examines the implementation of the University 4.0 model in Algeria, highlighting the role of Open Educational Resources (OERs) and digital practices in transforming language education. The integration of online platforms, hybrid classrooms, and virtual laboratories fosters interactive, learner-centered pedagogies while aligning with broader reforms in governance, digital infrastructure, and pedagogical innovation. The central issue is how University 4.0 can modernize language education while aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDG 4 is reflected in widening access to quality education through e-learning and OERs; SDG 8 in enhancing employability and innovation through foreign language teaching; and SDG 17 in promoting partnerships and international cooperation. However, persistent challenges remain, including the digital divide, curriculum overload, and insufficient teacher training. University 4.0 thus represents a strategic opportunity for Algeria, provided its adoption is progressively adapted to the national context and aligned with global trends.
