This paper studies the relationship between insurance and maritime transport in Algeria, focusing on the role of marine insurance in managing risks. It reviews the legal and conceptual framework, outlines the current situation, and uses a case study of a leading insurer to show practice. Results indicate that marine insurance is vital for covering risks, keeping maritime activity running, and building investor confidence. Yet in Algeria its role is weak, often treated as a formality rather than a strategic tool. The paper argues that this limitation reflects both transport constraints and internal problems in insurance, and that improvement is needed for sectoral growth.
