This paper examines Ama Ata Aidoo’s Our Sister Killjoy as a deliberate act of historiographic revision that re-members the post-colonial female subjectivity through the intertwined practices of rewriting official history, mobilizing palimpsestic memory, and performing everyday resilience. Synthesizing close textual analysis with Gayatri Spivak’s notion of the subaltern’s “discontinuous trace” and Homi Bhabha’s concepts of mimicry and the ambivalence of colonial discourse, the paper traces how Sissie’s epistolary journey disassembles imperial archives and re-inscribes subaltern knowledges instead. The study’s contribution is twofold: it demonstrates that the novel’s hybrid form—part prose poem, part travel satire—functions as a counter-archive, and it advances an ethics of reading that refuses to resolve Sissie’s “killjoy” stance into tidy redemption. Ultimately, the essay argues that Our Sister Killjoy enacts a decolonial feminist epistemology in which history, memory, and selfhood remain under revision, offering a methodological template for re-engaging canonical texts within contemporary decolonizing pedagogies.
