Abstract: The enduring aspiration to maintain dominance persisted beyond the colonial era, morphing in its methods but not in its essence. Therefore the Algerian identity had to recalibrate and articulate a new self-understanding amid ongoing challenges like the need to craft a discourse asserts intellectual resistance and a distinct worldview. This study delves into how the Algerian intellectual engages in shaping a narrative of self-definition against the 'Other' within the framework of postcolonial thought, with a particular focus on contemporary Algerian literature. This exploration is anchored in Abdellah Kerroum’s novel "Gharnoua: Labyrinth of the Alley of Darkness"
