This study aims to introduce a new dimension to Qur’anic studies by analyzing the critiquing methodology employed by exegetes in evaluating narrations about the story of Sulaymān (PBUH) and his horses within both theoretical and applied frameworks. Using a descriptive, analytical, and critiquing approach, the study seeks to clarify Qur’anic meanings that may present interpretive challenges and address issues arising from certain exegetical narrations. The study is divided into two main sections and four subsections, tackling questions such as the apparent contradiction between Sulaymān’s (PBUH) act of killing his horses and the attribute of mercy, as well as claims used to justify destroying anything that could harm an individual, based on Sulaymān's trial with his horses and other incidents. Key findings include that similarities in exegetes' approaches to one verse do not preclude differences in their interpretations of others, and that they often build upon each other's work. The study emphasizes the importance of understanding the wisdom behind Isrā’īlīyyāt, noting that the absence of knowledge of such wisdom does not imply its absence. It also highlights that accepting Isrā’īlīyyāt requires verifying the reliability of their transmission rather than their absolute validity unless confirmed by Islamic teachings, adhering to the principles of Qur’anic exegesis.
