Colonial Legacy And The Challenge Of A National Educational System In Cameroon

Abstract
There has always been a close relationship between the history of colonial rule in Africa and the evolution of educational systems established after independence. The education system of Cameroon encountered difficulties while trying to handle dual colonial languages together with its numerous ethnic communities. Relying on a descriptive historical anlysis approach, the objective of this study is to further examine the multifaceted impact of colonialism on post-independence Cameroon especially the political, cultural and linguistic legacies that the Cameroonian government had to cope with to build a national education system.
