Language plays a pivotal role in shaping cultural identity, preserving heritage, and enabling social interaction. Globally, many languages are undergoing degradation due to factors such as globalization, migration, and the dominance of widely spoken languages, raising concerns about the preservation of minority languages and their cultural value. Increasingly, native languages are losing linguistic richness as they are overshadowed by dominant global languages. In the context of Azerbaijan, the widespread use of Russian, English, and Turkish has raised concerns regarding the purity and functional status of the Azerbaijani language. This paper seeks to examine the phenomenon of language degradation and its relevance to Azerbaijan by analyzing historical influences, the development of the modern Azerbaijani language, the impact of multiculturalism, and the linguistic landscape following independence.
