This study aims to highlight the role of green bonds in financing renewable energy projects within the European Union and to assess their effectiveness in supporting the transition toward a low-carbon economy. Through a descriptive-analytical approach covering the period 2014–2023, the research finds that a significant share of green bond issuances in Europe has been directed toward clean energy projects, particularly in the solar and wind sectors. The results indicate that countries with mature financial markets—such as Germany, France, and the Netherlands—have led in leveraging green bonds, supported by robust regulatory frameworks like the EU Taxonomy and the European Green Deal. Green bonds serve to bridge the financing gap between capital providers and environmentally sustainable projects, accelerating the energy transition and contributing to the EU's climate and sustainability goals.
