Abstract — This article examines the rewriting of the myth of Solomon in Berber tales through a mythocritical lens, using the Quranic text as the invariant foundation of the myth. The study analyzes three Berber folktales (Solomon and the Griffin, Solomon and the Dragon, and Solomon and the Goose Thief) to reveal how the sacred figure of Solomon is desacralized and adapted to local cultural contexts. The findings highlight a hybridization of Islamic elements and Berber traditions, where Solomon—reimagined through variants—transforms into a multifaceted character: sage, warrior, and mediator, fulfilling the pedagogical and identity-building needs of Berber society. This research illuminates the dynamic reinterpretation of religious myths in oral traditions, underscoring their role in transmitting cultural values.
