Dairy Policies In Algeria In Search Of Sustainability And Autonomy: Reforms, Challenges And Results

Authors : Kacimi El Hassani Sawsan . Belmahdi Tarek .

Abstract

Since 2009, dairy policy has been aimed at revitalizing the milk sector by providing subsidies to all links in the chain. As a result of changes in the overall context of milk production, adjustments were made in 2015 to cope with the rise in feed prices. As a result, there has been an improvement in indicators such as production and collection. However, the conclusions drawn only partially meet the country's requirements, as recourse to the international market to offset the deficit observed is a necessity and a reality that has remained unchanged since independence. Importing milk powder and animal feed represents a considerable cost to the budget.
