Authors : Bounar Wissam . Kaouache Salah .

Abstract

The present study investigates the efficacy of story circles—a structured narrative-sharing method—in enhancing intercultural sensitivity among final-year students in Algeria and Turkey. Addressing the issue of learners' lack of intercultural sensitivity, crucial for intercultural competence, the research integrates story circles into the curriculum and uses focus group interviews at Jijel University in Algeria and Fırat University in Turkey. Thematic analysis reveals significant potential for improvement in students' engagement with and appreciation for cultural diversity. The findings highlight the potential of Story Circles as an effective tool in EFL contexts, especially in speaking classes. This research contributes to the discourse on innovative educational practices aimed at fostering intercultural understanding among university students. As intercultural sensitivity is essential for global readiness, future applications of story circles in similar settings are recommended to enhance intercultural communicative competencies globally. Such development is essential for students' holistic growth—academically, professionally, and socio-emotionally—in an increasingly interconnected world.
