Innovation’s Ecosystem: How Partnerships And Institutions Enable Entrepreneurial Ventures

Authors : Setti Zakia .

Abstract

Entrepreneurs’ inter-firm networks play a pivotal role in fostering entrepreneurial activities (e.g., Powell, Koput, & Smith-Doerr, 1996) and driving innovative performance (Powell, Koput, & Smith-Doerr, 1996). Collaborative networks are widely recognized as critical to innovation, as they facilitate the generation and exchange of knowledge (Lundvall et al., 1992). Chesbrough (2006) argues that innovation is no longer confined within firm boundaries but occurs within open systems, integrating internal and external sources to create value. This article examines how entrepreneurs’ behavior and networks are embedded in, and shaped by, institutional and cultural environments. Specifically, it investigates the relationship between inter-firm networks and entrepreneurial innovation, asking whether institutional contexts explain differences in innovation across countries. By addressing these questions, the study highlights the impact of institutional factors on both innovation and inter-firm networks. It aims to provide insights into how cross-national institutional differences influence entrepreneurial innovativeness through the dynamic of inter-firm networks. Keywords: , , , i.
