Cultural Différence And Openness To Others

Authors : Chikh M'hamed .

Abstract

Abstract Al-Aroui asserts that embracing openness is crucial for the Arab self, which faces a crisis stemming from cultural stagnation and historical backwardness. Progress can only be achieved through self-examination that goes beyond a narcissistic or inferior perspective, which merely sustains the status quo. It requires acknowledging the multiplicity and differences within the other. Contemporary Arab ideology has struggled to recognize the cultural richness of the West; it often perceives acculturation as a mere reaction rather than as a dynamic process of creation, publication, and intellectual exchange. This perspective hinders the realization of our distinctiveness, leading us to relate to the other through mere parallels, comparisons, and approaches. Our actions and ideas frequently consist of reactions rather than proactive engagement. To move forward, it is essential to engage with the universe and contribute meaningfully to it, as any detachment from self-awareness inevitably results in stagnation and regression..
