تعتبر المصادرالتاريخية الأجنبيةمادة لا يستغنى عنها فيما تعلق بكتابة تاريخ الجزائر الحديث، وتزداد أهميتها حسب دقة المعلومات التي تتوفر عليها وكذا المواضيع التي تتناولها وبالأخص إذا كان أصحاب هذه المصادر كتاب أكاديميين ومن بين هذه المصادر« Travels or observation relating to several parts of barbary and levant ».للرحالةالإنجليزي« Thomas Shaw » . دون الرحالة الإنجليزي توماس شاو حسب هذا المصدر مجموعة من الملاحظات خلال تواجده بالإيالة الجزائرية تتعلق بتركيبة السكان وعلاقتهم بالسلطة العثمانية، كما تطرق لجانب مهم وهو الحدود الجغرافية للإيالة الجزائرية. ما يميز الرحالة توماس شو هو الاعتناء بذكر مجموعة من التفاصيل الجغرافية والفلكية بحكم تكوينه الأكاديمي وتنقلاته للمناطق الحدودية لمعاينة المدن والتضاريس وهو ما سنتطرق إليه من خلال هذه المداخلة. Abstract: Foreignhistorical sources are an indispensable material for writing the modern history of Algeria, and their importance increasesaccording to the accuracy of the information available to them and the topics theycover, especially if the owners of these sources are academicwriters. Amongthese sources « Travels or observation relating to several parts of barbary and levant ». « Thomas Shaw » , the English traveler Thomas Shaw, according to this source, recorded a set of observations duringhisstay in the Algerian province related to the composition of the population and theirrelationshipwith the Ottoman authority. He alsotouched on an important aspect, whichis the geographicalborders of the Algerian province. Whatdistinguishes the traveler Thomas Shaw ishis care in mentioninga set of geographical and astronomicaldetails due to hisacademic background and histravels to border areas to examine cities and terrain, whichiswhatwewilladdress in this intervention.
