This article seeks to trace the transformation of the image of the Alhambra in Arabic poetry, from the symbolic value that was associated with it in the prosperous Andalusian times, to the aesthetic value that emerged in the modern era, passing through the stage of transformation that followed the fall of Andalusia and the loss of its glory. We will analyze selected poems by poets from the ancient and modern eras, relying on solid Arabic references, to identify the most prominent ontological features that characterize both values, and reveal the fundamental differences in the depiction of the Alhambra's landmarks in ancient and modern poetry. We will try to answer the central question posed by this study: What are the most prominent ontological features between the symbolic value and the aesthetic value of the Alhambra in the poems of ancient and modern poets, and what is the difference between them in depicting the features of the Alhambra?
