This study examines the representations of migration and Algerian identity in Algerian literary texts, exploring their multiple dimensions and the concept of identity that rejects the logic of exclusion attempted by some, especially during the 1990s. This was a period in the history of two geographically distant yet tragically close countries: Algeria and Sarajevo, where pain and death, sorrow and defeats, exile and the escape from a painful reality to an even harsher one prevail. A fate that unites their characters, as this study goes beyond the apparent symbolism reflecting a society suffering from homelessness, poverty, and deprivation, to uncover hidden meanings centered on the search for identity, freedom, and a sense of security. The novel The Firewood of Sarajevo offers a complex view of the theme of migration, where the dimensions of war, exile, alienation, and the search for identity intertwine in a narrative that reflects a human suffering extending beyond geographic and cultural borders. How does The Firewood of Sarajevo represent the theme of migration to Europe? How does it reflect the internal conflict between the painful past and the painful present? What role do memories and nostalgia play in shaping the migrants' experience? Especially since Algerian narrative creativity has taken a significant leap towards renewal and transformation, leading to new narrative literary creations.
