The Use Of Language In Justifying The 2022 Russian Military Operation In Ukraine: Discourse Analysis Of President Putin’s Tv Address Speech

Abstract

The Russo-Ukrainian conflict has been the subject of much academic research and analysis as a novel topic. However, this paper makes a contribution to developing a deeper understanding of this conflict by providing an in-depth study of President Putin’s 2022 National TV address. By so doing, this moves the research from a focus on material powers to the role of language as a form of power. It offers an alternative theoretical lens for thinking about The Russo-Ukrainian military dispute.
