This study discusses the implications of new economic trends under President Abdul Majeed Tabun, on Algeria’s food security. President TABUN made the goals of his presidential program for the 2019 presidential election, known as “54 Covenants,” one of his first presidential goals, intended to reduce the dependence of the Algerian economy to the oil rent, and in order to ensure economic security, which is a broadly understood component of Algerian national security. In this regard, there have been several government efforts since 2019 to reach this goal, i.e. self-sufficiency, which is confirmed by many proofs and barometers, consisting of the discount of the import statement in the agricultural meadow, the issuance of several legislations and laws, the tax and banking facilities in order to develop the agricultural sector and accompany farmers to achieve this strategic objective. The study concluded the new economic policy, along with international situations, specifically the Ukrainian crisis and the consequent supply chain crisis, imposed on policymakers to accelerate the reform of the agricultural sector in a way that achieves food security and ends the dependence of the Algerian economy on petroleum rent.
