Dissertation writing is part of the supervision process and a prerequisite for Master’s degree. Despite the fact that Master’s students in the English Department –University of Tiaret- take writing and research skills classes, they struggle to write a dissertation that adheres to the academic research writing standards. This paper, therefore, explores the challenges faced by supervisees, at Master level, in the dissertation writing. The study is carried out at Tiaret University, with 40 Master 2 Didactics student, selected through convenience sampling. This investigation adopts a case study and a mixed methods approach. The data is triangulated and elicited through a questionnaire followed by a semi-structured interview. The data revealed that the participants lacked reformulation tools, demonstrated issues related to language proficiency and writing skill and lacked a common writing framework and guidelines.
