Scholars Of The Cora Of Jaén In Ibn Bashkuwāl's Kitāb Al-ṣila: A quantitative-analytical Study

Abstract
This research aims to present an analytical statistical study of the notable figures of the Andalusian Cora of Jaén (the city and its surrounding districts) through Kitāb al-Ṣila by Ibn Bashkuwāl (d. 578 AH/1182 CE), in order to reveal their scientific, geographical, and professional characteristics during the fifth and sixth Islamic centuries. Its significance lies in employing the quantitative method to transform biographical data into precise indicators that highlight patterns of geographical distribution, scientific specializations, and professional trajectories. The study included thirty-five biographies, and their analysis showed a close distribution between the scholars of the capital city (17 scholars) and the scholars of the surrounding districts (18 scholars), reflecting the spread of scholarly activity beyond the urban center. It revealed the predominance of the jurisprudential and judicial specializations. The results further demonstrated the breadth of scholarly travel toward Córdoba, Kairouan, and the Islamic East, and its role in enhancing the circulation of knowledge. يهدف هذا البحث إلى تقديم دراسة إحصائية تحليلية لأعلام كورة جيّان الأندلسية (مدينةً وأحوازاً) من خلال كتاب الصلة لابن بشكوال (ت 578هـ/1182م)، للكشف عن خصائصهم العلمية والجغرافية والوظيفية خلال القرنين الخامس والسادس الهجريين. وتكمن أهميته في توظيف المنهج الكمي لتحويل المعطيات التراجمية إلى مؤشرات دقيقة تبرز أنماط التوزيع الجغرافي والتخصصات العلمية والمسارات المهنية، وقد شملت الدراسة خمساً وثلاثين ترجمة، وأظهر تحليلها تقارباً في التوزيع بين علماء الحاضرة (17 عالماً) وعلماء الأحواز (18 عالماً)، بما يعكس انتشار النشاط العلمي خارج المركز الحضري. كما برزت هيمنة التخصصين الفقهي والقضائي، إلى جانب حضور علوم الحديث والقراءات والآداب، وكشفت النتائج عن اتساع حركة الرحلة العلمية نحو قرطبة والقيروان والمشرق الإسلامي، ودورها في تعزيز تداول المعرفة، كما اضطلع هؤلاء الأعلام بوظائف دينية وإدارية مهمة، مما يؤكد مكانة كورة جيان بوصفها أحد المراكز الفاعلة في الحياة العلمية والثقافية بالأندلس.
