Motivation For Learning Among Students An Exploratory Study At Abbas Moussa Secondary School – El Bouni 02, Annaba

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the level of learning motivation (intrinsic, extrinsic) among second-year secondary school students across various academic streams at Abbas Moussa High School (El Bouni 2, Annaba Province). Employing a descriptive methodology, the study administered the 28-item Academic Motivation Scale (AMS) developed by Vallerand et al. (1992) to a purposive stratified sample of 31 students. The findings indicated that extrinsic motivation was the predominant pattern among the study participants, this was followed by intrinsic motivation at a moderate level, whereas amotivation registered at a very low level. Furthermore, the results revealed statistically significant gender differences: female students outperformed males in both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, while male students demonstrated a relatively higher rate of amotivation. Given the small sample size, these findings remain exploratory and preliminary, precluding broad generalization; nevertheless, they offer valuable insights that can assist educators and academic counselors in designing pedagogical strategies aimed at fostering intrinsic motivation among students ملخص استهدفت هذه الدراسة تحديد مستوى الدافعية للتعلم(الداخلية، الخارجية) لدى تلاميذ السنة الثانية ثانوي بمختلف الشعب بثانوية عباس موسى، البوني 2، ولاية عنابة، واعتمدت الدراسة المنهج الوصفي، وطبق مقياس فاليراند للدافعية الأكاديمية (Vallerand et al., 1992) المكون من 28 فقرة، على عينة قصدية طبقية بلغت 31 تلميذا، وأظهرت النتائج أن الدافعية الخارجية هي النمط السائد لدى أفراد العينة، وتليها الدافعية الداخلية بمستوى متوسط، بينما سجل انعدام الدافعية بمستوى منخفض جدا. كما كشفت النتائج عن فروق دالة حسب الجنس، حيث تفوقت الإناث على الذكور في كلا نوعي الدافعية، في حين سجل الذكور نسبة أعلى نسبيا في انعدام الدافعية. ونظرا لصغر حجم العينة، تبقى هذه النتائج ذات طابع استكشافي أولي لا يمكن تعميمها بشكل مطلق، غير أنها تقدم مؤشرات مهمة يمكن أن تفيد الأساتذة والمستشارين التربويين في تصميم استراتيجيات تدريسية تعزز الدافعية الداخلية لدى التلاميذ.
