Abstract

The present study aimed to examine differences in psychological distress and psychological resilience among individuals dependent on psychoactive substances according to place of residence (rural/urban), duration of substance use, and relapse frequency. The sample consisted of (60) individuals dependent on psychoactive substances, aged between 21 and 43 years. The study employed the Psychological Resilience Scale (Abdelmonem, 2022) and the Psychological Distress Scale developed by the researcher (2026). The results indicated partial statistically significant differences in psychological distress according to place of residence, in favor of rural participants, while no significant differences were found in psychological resilience. Regarding years of substance use, significant differences emerged only in total psychological resilience, in favor of individuals with shorter durations of use, whereas psychological distress showed no significant differences. Furthermore, no statistically significant differences were found according to relapse frequency in either psychological distress or psychological resilience.
