Background: This integrative review aims to provide a holistic understanding of the mechanisms and active components of the JASPER intervention in the development of social communication skills in children with autism spectrum disorder, moving beyond a mere assessment of effectiveness to explore how developmental change occurs. Method: The methodological framework developed by Dhollande et al. (2021) was used to conduct the integrative review, and the PRISMA 2020 guidelines were followed to organize the search process. After screening and selection, the results led to the included of 12 studies in this review, with a thematic analysis of the study results. Results: The thematic analysis revealed that working on the variable of joint engagement represents a central mechanism of the intervention, contributing 69% of its impact on subsequent language development. Furthermore, working on joint attention is considered an active component for improving social communication skills, while the caregiver’s responsiveness and the precision of implementation are important factors in the stability and sustainability of gains. Conclusion: The study concluded that the JASPER intervention is highly effective and flexible in implementation, as it transforms the interactive context into a sustainable learning environment. The researchers recommend the adoption of the JASPER protocol in Arab and Algerian intervention centers.
