Abstract: M'sila Governorate is considered one of the inland provinces, and it possesses geographical and historical weight. The name "M'sila" is traced back to "al-sayl" meaning the flood/stream. Some attribute it to the Berber word "Tamsilt" which means "al-masalla" - the obelisk. There is also an opinion that traces the name to the term "Massylia" = Eastern Numidia. The emergence of Islam in M'sila dates back to the period of the second campaign of Uqba ibn Nafi (62-64 AH / 681-683 CE), during which he reached the city of "Adhna", where he achieved an important victory over the Romans. The campaign of Hassan ibn al-Nu'man al-Ghassani (74-79 AH / 693-699 CE) is also considered one of the other campaigns that had a connection with the region, through the scorched earth policy carried out by Kahina Dihya bint Matiya. The campaign of Musa ibn Nusayr al-Lakhmi (79-90 AH / 698-708 CE) is considered the second campaign that passed through the M'sila area, and it passed through it again when it headed to the fortress of Majana in present-day Bor Keywords: M'sila; Islamic Conquest; Maghreb; Zab; Adhna.
