Abstract This article aims to examine the intricate relationship between meaning, lexical collocation, and Arabic expressive quality in translation, with particular emphasis on Chinese–Arabic translation. The research problem stems from the observation that many shortcomings in translated texts are not necessarily due to a misunderstanding of the lexical meaning of the source text, but rather to insufficient mastery of Arabic expressive mechanisms—especially lexical collocation and stylistic coherence—resulting in translations that lack fluency and naturalness. The study adopts an analytical–applied methodology, employing semantic and stylistic analytical tools grounded in semantic field theory and the concept of lexical collocation. The analysis is based on selected samples of Chinese–Arabic translations, particularly within educational contexts, with a focus on identifying patterns of lexical deviation, disruptions in collocational relations, and their impact on meaning construction in the target text. The findings indicate that weak lexical collocation constitutes a major factor negatively affecting translation quality, as it leads to unnatural expressions and weak stylistic cohesion, even when the surface meaning is accurately conveyed. The results also demonstrate that literal translation of certain Chinese structures—especially general verbs such as “是” (shì) and “有” (yǒu)—often produces Arabic expressions that are overly declarative or existential in contexts where such constructions are inappropriate, reflecting limited sensitivity to the expressive norms of the target language. The study concludes that improving the quality of Chinese–Arabic translation requires greater attention to lexical collocation as a fundamental component of fluency and stylistic coherence. It further recommends integrating lexical collocation into translator training programs and developing specialized linguistic resources, such as corpora and collocational dictionaries, to support the production of accurate, natural, and stylistically coherent translations.
