The conversion efficiency of photovoltaic systems remains relatively modest, typically ranging from 12% to 17%. To enhance the harvested energy, it is essential to employ maximum power point tracking (MPPT) strategies. This work focuses on a comparative analysis between conventional techniques and metaheuristic algorithms applied to PV systems. Traditional methods, such as Perturb and Observe, are easy to implement but their performance decreases under fluctuating irradiance or partial shading. On the other hand, metaheuristic approaches—particularly Particle Swarm Optimization and Grey Wolf Optimization—demonstrate greater robustness and faster convergence toward the global maximum power point. Findings reported in the literature highlight that these intelligent optimization techniques provide a promising solution to the drawbacks of classical algorithms, especially in scenarios involving non-uniform solar irradiation.
