Reading is one of the four essential language skills in teaching and learning English as a Foreign Language, and it requires active interaction between the author, the reader, and the text. Any disruption may cause misunderstanding. This study investigates reading comprehension challenges faced by second-year foreign languages pupils at Guettal Aissa Secondary School in Barika and identifies contributing factors. Using a quantitative approach, an eighteen-question questionnaire was administered to thirty three pupils, and the data were analyzed using SPSS-25. The findings showed problems mainly in grammar, making inferences, vocabulary, and time constraints. The results indicated that inadequate teaching methods, poor vocabulary, lack of reading habits, and unawareness of reading strategies were key causes. The study concluded that teachers’ insufficient training and learners’ limited use of strategies contribute to these difficulties and suggested pedagogical implications and future research on digital tools.
