This article examines Hisn al-Mushaqqar in pre-Islamic and early Islamic poetry as a place that moved beyond Its geographical reality to become a poetic symbol of power, dominatIon, and fortification. The article is based on the assumption that al-Mushaqqar was not represented in early Arabic poetry merely as a historical fortress, but rather as a cultural sign associated In the Arab Imagination with deterrence, sovereignty, and control over space. It therefore seeks to trace the representations of al-Mushaqqar in poetic texts, to analyze Its political and aesthetic connotations in pre-Islamic poetry, and to reveal the semantic transformation that affected these connotations in early Islamic poetry as Arab conceptions of power and legitimacy changed. The article adopts an analytical approach that relates the poetic text to its historical context without reducing It to a mere historical report, in order to show how al-Mushaqqar shifted from a fortified site into a symbol revealing structures of authority and modes of representing them. The article concludes that al-Mushaqqar performed, in pre-Islamic poetry, a symbolic function tied to the glorification of strength, prestige, and control, and that Its presence continued In early Islamic poetry within a new semantic horizon that did not erase its earlier significance, but rather reoriented It in light of an ethical and moral reconsideration of power and domination.
