Abstract

Abstract: This research paper aims to clarify Edward Said's critical project of the Orientalist Reason , deconstructing Orientalism into an epistemological-authoritarian discourse aimed at hegemonic or Western domination of the East. It is not an innocent epistemological-academic discourse, but rather one in which the epistemological and the political are always intertwined. The Orientalist's goal was not to understand the East or to gain insight into its culture, history, civilization, and heritage. Rather, his goal was to employ knowledge to create negative intellectual patterns about the East for the purpose of controlling and dominating it, and for the colonial occupation of its lands. In this project, Edward Said relied on the ideas of Michel Foucault, who discussed the relationship between knowledge and power: knowledge produces power, and power reproduces knowledge, He applied this relationship to Orientalism, drawing on real-life examples, including the British occupation of Egypt, and the french ocupation by napleon.
