The Interactive Context Of The Individual Within The Family: Between Normality And Disorder

Authors : Berradjel Ihsene .

Abstract

Healthy family interaction contributes to the psychological well-being of family members, allowing them to behave in a balanced manner and acquire qualities and skills that help them cope with life outside the family, such as self-confidence, self-esteem, and social skills that help them build and maintain relationships with others in their social circle. On the other hand, there are many factors that may threaten and destabilize this family entity, creating a kind of dysfunctional and turbulent relationship between individuals. This causes their interaction to take a negative turn and may become unhealthy and abnormal, affecting individuals and the relationships between the various sub-groups that make up the family, threatening the mental and physical health of individuals. Its members exhibit abnormal behaviors, and some may develop psychological and even mental disorders that may lead them to adopt deviant and criminal behaviors that are indicative of and express the family's own dysfunction. The family structure becomes a pathological and deviant one, rather than a healthy one that fulfills its educational role and ensures the proper upbringing of its members. Thus, the individual within his family may be either within a healthy and normal educational system, or in a system, that generates disorder and deviance because of poor interactions and a corrupt family environment as a whole.
