Abstract Suad Aldarra's debut memoir I Don't Want to Talk about Home (2022) explores trauma, unspeakability, and linguistic fragmentation in refugee literature. Because trauma studies have revealed a deficiency regarding the linguistic and narrative limitations of refugees’ testimony, this article will not only demonstrate how silence functions as a self-contained language: powerful and politically charged, but it will also reveal how unspeakability and linguistic fragmentation become imperative to bear witness to Syria's history of trauma and resistance. Ultimately, Aldarra urges readers to hear the hum of words by paying careful attention to what remains unsaid.
