An Insight Into The Algerian Researchers’ Scientific Writing Skills: A Move Analysis Of Biology-related Research Article Introductions From The Asjp Database

Abstract

This study examines the rhetorical moves in the introductions of research articles written by Algerian researchers in Biology. The corpus consists of 30 introductions extracted from scientific articles published in local journals between 2020 and 2025. Purposive sampling was employed to select articles that were relevant to the research objectives. The CARS model of Swales (2004) was used for the genre analysis. Results revealed that Algerian researchers in the field of Biology follow this model when writing their articles. However, they need to raise their generic awareness about some moves and steps. The results of this study can be applied to improve the scientific writing skills of EST learners by integrating move analysis into course design .
