This article discusses the issue of military institution's intervention in African political life, through two main perspectives. The first one examines the structural dimensions of African states, where economic, social, political, and historical factors intersect, enabling the military institution to play a decisive central role in shaping political power, setting its priorities, imposing legitimacy conditions, and; most importantly; determining norms for accessing and relinquishing power, regardless of the views of other political forces in the state. The second perspective explores the impact of foreign aid, which puts the military institution at the center of political interactions, where various international powers competing in Africa steer and stabilize political events, serving their interests through various means, which starts by political and economic impact, up to the direct military involvement.
