Abstract

General de Bourmont led a campaign on the city of Blida on July 23, 1830, with the aim of lifting the siege imposed by the Mitidja inhabitants on the French army in Algiers. However, the resistance fighters defeated de Bourmont’s army and foiled their first attempt at occupation. French campaigns subsequently followed in succession targeting strategic areas on the Mitidja Plain, such as Blida, Koléa, and Souk Ali, employing terror tactics like the Blida massacre perpetrated by the butcher General Clauzel, and the massacre of the El Ouffia tribe at the hands of the Duc de Rovigo. Despite the brutal methods and repeated military campaigns, the French were unable to impose their control over the Mitidja Plain until after the Battle of Oued El-Allagh in 1839. Following this, the French army led a campaign in the western part of the Mitidja, subsequently occupying the city of Cherchell on March 15, 1840. Meanwhile, other campaigns proceeded through Mouzaïa, El Affroun, Oued Djer, and Boumedfaa, culminating in the French forces' seizure of Miliana. قاد الجنرال دوبرمون حملة على مدينة البليدة في 23جويلية 1830 بغرض فك الحصار الذي ضربه أهل متيجة على الجيش الفرنسي في مدينة الجزائر، إلا أن المقاومين هزموا جيش دي برمون وأفشلوا أول محاولة لاحتلالهم. وتتالت الحملات الفرنسية على المناطق الاستراتيجية في سهل متيجة كالبليدة، والقليعة، وسوق علي، مستعملة وسائل الترهيب مثل مذبحة البليدة التي ارتكبها السفاح الجنرال كلوزيل ومذبحة قبيلة العوفية على يد الدوق دي روفيقو، ورغم الأساليب الوحشية وتكرار الحملات العسكريةلم يتمكن الفرنسيون من فرض سيطرتهم على سهل متيجة إلا بعد معركة وادي العلايق 1839. قاد بعدها الجيش الفرنسي حملة في الجهة الغربية من متيجة احتل على إثرها مدينة شرشال في 15 مارس 1840، في حين اتجهت حملات أخرى عبر موزاية والعفرون ووادي جر وبومدفع انتهت باستيلاء القوات الفرنسية على مليانة.
