This study explores the potential for accounting harmonization within ACFTA (the African Continental Free Trade Area), as was the case of the European Union which made IFRS mandatory for the consolidated accounts of listed companies. To this end, a literature review was conducted using a descriptive approach, along with the use of standard deviation as quantitative analysis tool. The study concluded that accounting harmonization within the area is feasible, provided that alignment with the OHABL (Organization for the Harmonization in Africa of Business Law) is pursued, given its appropriate institutional structure and recommends intensifying research around the evolution of the accounting scene within the area, and particular monitoring of the contribution of the accounting profession in said evolution. However, it was limited by insufficient data as it’s relatively a new phenomenon.
