The Rhetoric Of Persuasion Through Poetic Imagery In Contemporary Algerian Poetry: An Applied Study Of The Poem The Wedding Of The White One By Othman Loucif

Authors : Amer Somia .

Abstract

: . Arabic rhetoric has witnessed notable transformations, particularly in recent years, evolving from a focus on isolated sentences to a more comprehensive engagement with the full text. This shift reflects broader changes in literary criticism, which has expanded to include various pragmatic discourses such as religious, media, and cultural communication. As a result, rhetorical studies have become more closely linked to the reader’s reception and interpretation, prompting writers and poets to develop clearer and more persuasive forms of expression. This evolution contributes to the revitalization of contemporary rhetorical studies, making them more relevant in the field of knowledge and cognitive criticism. Among the various literary forms that embody this shift is contemporary Algerian poetry, which integrates innovative rhetorical strategies and rich poetic imagery to enhance its persuasive power. This paper presents an applied study of the rhetorical function of poetic imagery in the poem "The Wedding of the White One" by the Algerian poet Othman Loucif. The study aims to highlight how the poet employs vivid and symbolic imagery not only for aesthetic purposes but also as a means of persuasion. Loucif’s use of imagery creates a deeper emotional connection with the reader, allowing for a more impactful poetic message. This approach demonstrates the poet’s ability to merge creativity with rhetorical purpose, positioning poetic imagery as a central tool in the art of persuasion
