It is well known to students of literature that artistic epistles held a distinguished position in the Mamluk era, replacing poetic verses in an age when writing epistles became necessary for the needs of governance and politics. However, the prevailing view is that the Mamluk era was one of weakness and decline, leading to a lack of interest in the literature of this period among critics. Our aim in this research paper is to highlight the effective role of Mamluk writers in the court of government, in addition to explaining the types of letters, examining their aesthetic aspects, and studying the characteristics of their writers' styles. The researcher also aims to analyse these literary letters according to modern critical approaches that are closely related to ancient Arabic criticism, such as intertextuality, and to examine the aesthetics of the written text.
