The Repercussions Of Climate Change On Global Health Security: An Analytical Perspective On The Institutional Role Of The World Health Organization

Authors : Abdelmalek Feradi .

Abstract

Climate change constitutes the preeminent existential challenge of the twenty-first century, functioning as a systemic risk multiplier that transcends environmental and economic boundaries to pose a direct, multifaceted threat to Global Health Security. The gravity of this phenomenon is starkly manifested in the accelerating kinetics of infectious disease transmission and the escalating severity of epidemics, as shifting climatic variables alter the biogeographical niches of pathogens and facilitate the expansion of vector-borne diseases into previously temperate latitudes. This crisis further undermines the essential pillars of food security, inducing a state of chronic nutritional vulnerability that exacerbates the impact of health emergencies, particularly among marginalized populations. Within this volatile landscape, the World Health Organization (WHO) emerges as a pivotal international actor and the strategic architect of global health governance; it is tasked with the monumental responsibility of formulating climate-sensitive policies, enhancing multilateral cooperation frameworks, and providing nations with the technical and financial mechanisms necessary to build Climate-Resilient Health Systems capable of proactively adapting to these rapid and destabilizing transformations.
