This study aims to analyse the impact of trade openness on economic growth in Algeria during the period 1990-2022, in light of global economic shifts and the dominance of the hydrocarbon sector in the productive structure. The study used gross domestic product as an indicator of economic growth, trade openness and oil prices as explanatory variables, using the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model and the error correction model (ECM) to analyse the relationship in the short and long term. The results showed a long-run cointegration relationship between them, as well as a positive and significant effect of oil prices on economic growth, while the effect of trade openness was positive but not significant. In the short term, the results showed a positive and significant effect for both trade openness and oil prices. The study concludes that the impact of trade openness in Algeria remains limited and linked to weak economic diversification, which calls for complementary policies to promote exports and diversify productivity.
