This study investigates the effects of gender and education on the production of emphasis by children speaking Ajlouni Jordanian Arabic (AJA). Driven by the paucity of acoustic analyses in Jordanian Arabic (JA), this research engaged 20 schoolchildren, evenly distributed across gender and educational backgrounds. The acoustic measurements encompassed Voice Onset Time (VOT) and the first three formant frequencies (F1-F3) at the onset, midpoint, and offset of the vowel. The findings indicated that emphasis is characterized by shorter VOT, elevated F1 and F3, and reduced F2 frequencies. A notable interaction between emphasis and gender was identified for F1 and F2, with male participants exhibiting more pronounced emphatic-plain distinctions. No significant effects were identified for emphasis by education or emphasis by gender by education interactions.
