Beyond Translation Pedagogy: The Rise Of Translanguaging As A Theory Of Mind And Language And Its Implications For Algerian Efl Context

Authors : Slimane Boukhentache .

Abstract

The primary aim of this study is to develop a clear theoretical understanding of translanguaging and to propose a contextually sensitive pedagogical framework for the possible integration of translanguaging practices into Algerian English language classrooms. A comprehensive review of the literature reveals, first, that translanguaging is reshaping the field of linguistics; second, the pedagogical evolution of translanguaging indicates a gradual move from a narrow focus on micro-linguistics toward more meaningful shifts between two languages. The analysis of these practical insights, alongside the synthesis of empirical studies conducted within the Algerian context, has developed a practical framework for integrating translanguaging into Algerian English language teaching classrooms. Translanguaging practices in the Algerian context can effectively support a set of teaching objectives outlined in this framework.
