Abstract This article examines two inscribed bone tesserae, housed in the Djemila Museum (Cuicul, Algeria), which originated from earlier discoveries. These small, rectangular artifacts, perforated and engraved with Latin letters, are characterized by their unique format and the brevity of their inscriptions. Through a comparative typological, material, and epigraphic analysis, the study allows us to situate them within the corpus of Roman tesserae, while highlighting their distinction from classical classifications. The study considers several hypotheses regarding their administrative, funerary, ritual, and religious functions. Despite the lack of excavation context data, these objects constitute rare evidence of a practice that combined craftsmanship, epigraphy, and social customs in ancient Algeria. They offer new insights into activities that are still poorly understood. The tesserae thus represent the material markers of a shared citizenship in a provincial city where local traditions and Roman culture intertwined.
