MBI -ES. This research paper aimed to investigate the nature of the relationship between striving for perfectionism and burnout, as well as their association with the occurrence of psychosomatic disorders among faculty members at the University of Algiers (2). The study adopted a descriptive correlational methodology and was conducted on a sample of (100) male and female university teachers selected through stratified random sampling to ensure gender representation. To test the study hypotheses, the following instruments were used: the Cornell Medical Index for psychological and psychosomatic disorders, the Perfectionism Striving Scales, and Abdel-Moneim Ahmed’s Burnout Scale. The results revealed a strong positive correlation between maladaptive perfectionism and burnout, as well as a strong relationship between burnout and elevated levels of psychosomatic symptoms. In contrast, adaptive perfectionism did not show the same negative effect. The findings also indicated statistically significant differences according to gender, age, and years of experience, with females, younger participants, and those with fewer years of experience reporting higher levels of burnout and psychosomatic symptoms. These results highlight the importance of distinguishing between dimensions of perfectionism and their role in the psychological and physical health of university faculty members.
