The contemporary Arabic novel serves as a vital space for interrogating the major issues of the nation, as its narrative mission transcends merely becoming a critical and historical act in itself. The title highlights the importance of the dialectical relationship between "narrative consciousness" and "historical transformation" in shaping these representations. The novel does not just record historical events as static facts; rather, it employs its narrative consciousness to reformulate these events from a subjective and human perspective. This consciousness gives the narrative the ability to deconstruct dominant official narratives, explore the margins and the unspoken, and provide alternative accounts of history concerned with individual experience and collective memory. It is a tool for creating a narrative parallel to official history, shedding light on the repercussions of major transformations such as colonialism, post-independence failures, loss of identity, and the clash with modernity. Conversely, "historical transformation" provides the raw material for this narrative consciousness, representing the fateful issues that occupy the Arab mind, from the struggle over identity to the problem of fragmentation. The novel embodies these transformations not only at the level of political facts but also at the level of their deep impact on individual and social psychology. It reveals the tension between heritage and contemporaneity, between the individual and the group, and between the past and the present. This dynamic interaction between narrative consciousness and historical transformations makes the Arabic novel a highly important cognitive tool.
